Whatever your preference, the 40th birthday party can be a good opportunity to reconnect with old friends that you haven't seen for years.
Where to start?
The key to a successful party is plenty of planning. Sending out invites to friends you haven't kept in contact with can be quite tricky, so you need to get invites out at least three months in advance. That will allow them to clear their schedule and make any arrangements such as travel and accommodation or organising a babysitter for the night.Luckily we live in a digital age, so if you have lost a friends phone number over the years you may be able to reach out to them through popular forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn.
Home or venue party?
If you have a large home you may want to host your 40th at your house. However this can come at some risks if you have any valuables that could get damaged throughout the evening. It can also be an unpleasant job cleaning up in the morning, some guests may overstay their welcome crashing on your couch till midday then expecting a feed of bacon and eggs!Venues offer that extra flexibility where the party can be at a more central location for your guests. They can help with setting up and cleaning up, there would be a set finish time to ensure you get your forty year old body to bed at a respectable time.
Resources
Luckily there are a heap of great free resources available to you if you go for a party at a venue. The internet has plenty of great venue options to suit whatever style you are after such as a pub for a laid back party or a nightclub for a more exclusive 40th birthday. There are even venue finding services that can link you with the right venue in your selected area to suit all your specifications. These services in most cases are free, where they receive a small commission from the venue for referring you.
Theme your party
You may want to even choose a theme for your big milestone. There are plenty of costume ideas to help you pick a theme from a quick Google Images search. Popular 40th themes include a gangster and moll theme, a character from your guests favourite movie or something beginning with the letter… Where you select the letter. This can be a lot of fun as there is no limit to the imagination that some guest will go to.A themed party can be a great icebreaker for guest to mingle with each other as they can easily compliment each other on their costumes to get the ball rolling.
